R2 Ranch Cow Herd
The genetics here at R2 Ranch are sampled from the herds of V8 Ranch, B. R. Cutrer, Moreno Ranches, Martin's Bar None and Schneider Brahmans. Whether by private treaty, public or online auction, R2 Ranch is very particular about the dams that make up our cow herd. When it comes right down to it phenotype is significant, they just have to have the "look". But more importantly they must have commercial performance and therefore raise a calf that is gentle, functional, structurally sound and growth oriented. Here are just a few pictures of R2 Ranch Dams: (BTW I am not a professional photographer! I just capture the ladies in the field as I find them!! In any case it will give you an idea of the "look" and strength of the R2 Ranch cow herd.)

I suppose every ranch has to have a favorite. For us it is 608. Visitors to the ranch often ask "are brahman cattle gentle"? I always tell them well 608 is a killer, be careful........she will lick you to death! Everyone loves to pet her and hand feed range cubes. And she loves the attention.

We just call her either "red" or 512 for short. She is as gentle as they come and loves a good scratch. She is currently raising her first calf. Red is also our very first experiment in Red Brahmans!

My other "Miss V8" is this beautiful lady. The first time I visited the V8 Ranch, Jim showed me their entire operation. I saw so many calves in the various pastures that I was having a hard time keeping them all straight. But I picked out my favorites and in their Fall 2016 private treaty sale I was able to purchase my first very own Miss V8.

I saw so many calves in the various pastures that I was having a hard time keeping them all straight. But I picked out my favorites and in their Fall 2016 private treaty sale I was able to purchase my first very own Miss V8.

They all carry the Martin Bar None brand and bar none they are the best set of heifers I have ever purchased. These 2 year old's all weigh out at 1200 lbs and are due to have their first calves this fall with Georgie Boy as the sire.
