How did the R2 Ranch get its name?
R2 Ranch itself is over 40 years in the making but our cattle history runs much deeper. The ranch name and the brand evolved after my folks passed away a few years back. Their names were Reginald and Rosella Rieger, so I chose the Double R Reverse brand and then name all the bulls Sir Reginald while the cows carry the name Miss Rose. My mom always wanted to live in a log cabin (she was from Oregon!) so we further honored her by building a log home on the ranch property (that's the one in the background). You can find us 5 miles South of Thorndale on a beautiful hilltop in central Texas.
Our legacy and some more history
My wife and I are born and bred Texans. We were in elementary and high school together but really got to know each other because of our love for horses and being involved in the Taylor Texas Blackland Riding Club. We went our separate ways after high school but reconnected in 2015.
I have been working cattle with my dad since I could walk. Mom always had a name for every cow, calf and bull on the property and she loved the cattle just as much as the rest of us. I miss my folks but getting to raise and interact with brahman cattle every day reminds me of their legacy.
I've studied the Brahman breed for awhile now and you will find genetics here at R2 Ranch from the likes of V8 Ranch, B. R. Cutrer, Moreno Ranches, Martin's Bar None and Schneider Brahmans. Come and see, you will be impressed.
